We spent Christmas in Utah this year. It was very fun. Reese loved all of the decorations at Grandma's - especially the snowman family on the mantle and the Christmas tree.

While home in Utah, we went to Temple Square to see the lights. It was an absolutely FREEZING night, so we didn't last too long. Reese was too cold and too bundled to see the magic of it - maybe next year!

Reese loved meeting Santa (mostly!). She learned to tell us what Santa says, and the whole time we were in line, she could see him and was saying HO HO HO over and over again. And of course waving and saying HI - her favorite new thing.

In other news, while we were waiting for Chris to meet us at the mall, we were shopping around and it started to SNOW. INSIDE. Yep, snow machine in the mall. It was awesome. Only at Tysons II.

Winter Party

During December, one of Lacey's big events took place right here in DC. The organization she works for throws a really nice holiday/winter party. The last few years it has been held at a local hotel, but this year we went all out with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. It was fantastic. Guests could roam the exhibits (like first ladies dresses, or the ruby slippers) while enjoying great food and drink (and dancing of course!). The colors this year were shades of red and turquoise. It all turned out beautiful with the lights, linens, and centerpieces. AND...we got a really nice picture taken by the event photographer.

We made our annual trek to the Knights of Columbus Christmas tree lot in our little city. We had planned to get a regular tree, without much of a plan for how to baby proof it. However, when we got to the lot, we fell in love with these tabletop trees. I always thought tabletop trees were Charlie Brown, but these were full and great, just without the part that Reese would try to eat. :)

Everyone who knows me, knows that I stressed (ok, STRESSED) over Reese's 1st birthday cake. For some reason, I felt strongly that I needed to make it myself but I don't bake, at all. And decorating? That is a whole other story. I even practiced baked a few times since I was so nervous. However, despite all the stressing, I LOVE how it turned out.

A huge thanks to Anais for helping me into the wee hours the night before the party, and to Kand for cutting it on the big day. :)

Reese's Birthday Party

We had so much fun at Reese's 1st birthday party!! It was a bumble bee theme and Lacey had a wonderful time planning it and putting the pieces together. We were so happy to have so many fun friends and family there to celebrate - including both sets of grandparents.

We welcomed guests with balloons and a fun balloon wreath on the front door.

Downstairs we decorated the wall with pictures from each month showing how she grew. We also decorated with a fun banner, bee fabric on the tables, and decorations throughout.

One of Lacey's former bridal clients now has a cookie business and made these darling (and delicious) cookies as favors for the party. We also found cute bee bath puppets and gave those away with some bubble bath.

Gymboree

Reese started going to Gymboree and LOVES it! At first we bought a Groupon good for 4 classes and then we won a contest at Celebrate Fairfax for 4 more (we also won a brand new wagon that day in a separate drawing. We should have played the lotto!) Chris came with this day, so we were able to get some fun pictures. We both decided she loves it so much that we signed her up once our free classes ended. It is really fun and we have noticed a big difference in her motor skills - she crawls, climbs and moves more. Oh, and....it wears her out and we get a good afternoon nap!

Reese - 11 Months

Reese turned 11 months old in October. Here are some things about her this month:

* She hates socks and shoes, even though it is starting to get cold out. The minute we get them on, she starts pulling them off. We can't even get off our street without totally disrobing.

* She is getting more teeth and now has two top and two bottom front teeth.

* She loves her Daddy and lights up whenever she sees him.

* She loves playing with her buddies from the mom's group. We go out to lunch, playdates at friends houses, and other activities. It is a lot of fun for Reese (and her Mama).

* We cannot believe she will be 1 next month!

Halloween was so much fun this year! Reese was a flower and so cute. She even left her headpiece on all day. We went to Wegman's for lunch (in costume) and to a really fun Halloween party at one of our Mom's Group friends. The babies were hilarious. They see each other a couple of times a week but as each new friend arrived at the party, they would just stand and stare at each other. I am sure they could not figure out why their friends were dressed as ladybugs, monkeys, bees, zebras, etc. Too funny!

Pumpkin Patch

Reese's daycare hosted a fun event at a local pumpkin patch. We had a great time playing with everyone and picking out a pumpkin. Reese's darling hat is courtesy of our dear friend Anais, who is a crochet queen!

Hot Air Balloon Festival (sans Balloons)

We joined some fun friends at the "Hot Air Balloon" Festival at Historic Long Branch. This is the 5th or 6th time we have been to this particular festival and we have NEVER seen a balloon. We understand that the weather has to be just right for the balloons to launch, but we have decided after multiple years of this that they should change the name to just plain old festival. It is fun without the balloons and Reese really loved the pumpkins and hay bale maze. Another lovely fall day.

Reese - 10 Months

Reese turned 10 months the end of September. She is at such a fun and funny stage. Here are some things about her this month:

* She is a screamer. And we hope its a quick phase. She screams and screeches about everything, all of the time. It certainly gets our attention

* Her hair is growing a lot and getting lighter and longer every day.

* She LOVES yogurt, bananas and cheese. and will sometimes try something else.

* She crawls fast and pulls up and cruises around the furniture.

* She has a funny little laugh and loves to play.

Fall Festivals

October was full of fun fall festivals. Like most years, we kicked off the festivals with the Waterford Fair (mama's favorite). It was a beautiful warm day and we enjoyed just hanging out in the lovely little town.

1st Birthday Parties

The end of September marked the beginning of several months of 1 year old birthday parties. The first was Weston, Reese's first new friend and we have had 2 or so a month for the rest of the fall. All of the babies in our mom's group are within 3 months of each other in age and so we are constantly celebrating. It has been so much fun. Another Stadium

While in Atlanta, we also went to a Braves game. That is 3 stadiums for Reese this season - a pretty great start. She was more interested in reading her book or drinking Grandpod's water, but still, she was there.

Go Aggies

Labor Day weekend we went to Atlanta to see Chris' sister. The reason we went that weekend was because my Utah State Aggies were playing Colleen's alma matter - Auburn and Auburn is only a couple of hours away. The OD's have followed Auburn football for years, even traveling to bowl games, so we made it into a family vacation. It was a HUGE deal for the Aggies to play there - they were the National Champs last year. We were expecting the possibility that USU could lose bad, but instead....they almost won!! They were ahead the whole time, putting up big points all game. It was sad to lose in the last minutes, but SO much fun to be there. There were hardly any Aggies (maybe 50 total) in the stands, so we cheered extra loud. And yes...I sang the Scottsman after every touchdown. Reese was especially cute decked out in her Aggie gear.

REESE - 9 Months

Reese is 9 months old! Let the birthday party planning commence (what? I'm an event planner, remember?) Here are some things about the girl this month:

* She crawls!! She is funny though because she is still pretty content to crawl, play a while, crawl some more, chill there. Nothing fast with this one.

* She pulls up on furniture, but just to her knees. Once again, not in a hurry (haha)

* She claps and waves. I was trying to get her wave on video and she started clapping for the first time. I was semi-hysterical.

* She eats everything but particularly loves french fries (don't worry, she eats other things including veggies and fruit too!)

* At her 9 month check up she is 19 lbs 7 oz, 28 inches and still has a big head (all those brains!)

* She laughs a lot - at other kids, when tickled (of course!), and just when something strikes her fancy. Its a terrific laugh

Reese hit up another baseball game with her Uncle Brady - Phillies at Nats. Most the time there are a ton of phillies fans, but this was unbelievable. It was all Philly, except Brady who wore his Nats gear proud. Ok, and a few other Nats fans. Is the Utley shirt to die for or what? Matching Utley's - COME ON!!

Facebook Brings People Together

Our last day in Wildwood was a rainy day. Reese and I were taking a nap and Chris was messing around on Facebook (which he rarely does) and saw a post by some good friends of ours (who rarely post) that live in Boston that they were on their way to Wildwood. Chris called and within an hour we were at their place to visit.

Heather is Chris' oldest friend. Seriously, they have known each other since they were babies (just 4 months apart). She and her husband Mark used to live in the DC area and we saw them often, but they moved to Boston and we only get to see them about once a year. They had a baby in March and we were trying to figure out a time to get up there to meet him. But....thanks to Facebook and Wildwood we were treated to an impromptu visit. Andrew and Reese are just 4 months apart too! It was wonderful to see them (and Heather's dad who took these great pics)

Jersey Shore

One of our favorite weekends this summer was spent at the shore with the McGarry's (Chris' Aunt, Uncle and Cousins). They live in Wildwood and invited us to stay for the weekend and enjoy their beach life. And beach life it is - Uncle Tom sells ice cream on the beach, Kevin is a lifeguard and Eileen works at the local deli. Good people to know at the beach!! We took the Cape May Ferry (very fun!) and then enjoyed a perfect beach day on Saturday, followed by a rainy, but fun day on Sunday. Thanks to you all for having us! We loved it. REESE - 8 Months

The 4th of July is our FAVORITE holiday!!! Well, Lacey's and so probably Reese's too. Chris?

Seriously. I love it more than Christmas. This year did not disappoint!

We started the day with one of our favorite little traditions - the Fairfax City parade. Local politicians, Peruvian dance troupes, dc urban high school bands and dancers, and librarians with choreographed book cart routines. What's not to love?

We were all decked out in our patriotic best. Please note that the stroller is also decorated. Just wait until she fits in a wagon. Oh the joy!

One of Reese's new things is to twist her wrist. So we put a flag in her hand and she waved it without realizing. Classic.

After the parde, we bought hot dogs from the Lions Club (naturally!) and went home to prep (read: outfit change) for more fun. We spent the afternoon and evening with some of our favorite friends and the Rogers/Oliver Housewarming party. Reese was awesome and just played and visited all day. We headed home late and pulled into Fairfax just as the fireworks were about to start. We got a great lawn seat and enjoyed the end to a perfect day.

We woke Reese up for the fireworks on Saturday night at Indian Lake - an unpredictable situation to be sure! She was awesome of course. We are still not sure she knows what was happening, but it was fun to try and show her one of our favorite things.

The Huck

We were so happy to spend part of the 4th of July weekend with dear friends at their vacation house Huckleberry Acres - The Huck. We sat outside under a big tree and ate our meals, took a nap in the hammock, played and laughed, had a campfire and went boating on Indian Lake.

Reese wasn't too sure about her fancy new lifejacket at first, but was a happy boater by the end.

Reese girl is 7 months old! She is as funny and great as ever. Here are some things about her this month:

* She is thinking about crawling - rocking, flipping from sitting to getting on her hands and knees and shimmying all around.

* She loves the pool more than ever. Swimming lessons ended but we have gone swimming with our buddies a few times since. She even likes getting dunked.

* She HATES baby food, but loves food. She has fully rejected purees, but will eat anything that has texture or that she can pick up herself. She particularly loves bread and bananas.

* She has super puffy gums. We think a tooth is about to make an appearance.

Swimming Lessons

We had a great time with Reese's swimming lessons at the community center. We are definitely going to sign up again in the fall. The instructor said that Reese was the best one (pardon my bragging) even though she was the youngest and was ready for the toddler class, except she is too small. On the last lesson, Chris came with and took some pics.

Reese is a lucky girl and gets to go on lots of fun trips. Her Mom does a week of big events in Chicago every year and Reese and her Dad got to come visit for part of the week. Chris flew alone with her (thank you buddy!!) and luckily got 2 empty seats next to him, so she slept the whole way!

She went to her 2nd Major Leauge stadium - US Cellular Field to see the White Sox (the cubbies were out of town, or we would have done Wrigley).

She had (well, ok, her parents had) a delicious lunch at a celebrity chef's sandwich shop - Gramwich by Grahm Elliot. AND...got to eat with the chef who just happened to be sitting at the big communal table in the restaurant. It was a treat for her parents for sure.

Reese's First Ballpark

Reese went to her very first Major League ballpark with her Dad while her Mom was out of town for work (her Dad has been to all but 4 and her Mom has been to about half, so its time to get the girl started). They went with Uncle Brady to see the Phillies play the Nationals. Unfortunately, it was a really HOT day and Reese didn't last to long, but they still had a fun day!

We took Reese to Great Country Farms for some strawberry picking. It was the first weekend the fields were open so we didn't get a ton of strawberries, but we did have a great time. Reese loved her taste too.

Reese - SIX MONTHS

We can't believe it either! Reese is six months old!!! She is the most fun right now. Here are some things about her this month:

* She is a drooling machine. So much drool, so little time. Teeth, are you coming?

* She is sitting up unsupported and has been since about 5 and a half months, impressing even her doctor

* She is eating more food - some pureed veggies and fruit. She is so excited about eating that she forgets to chew and swallow and instead just grins and talks with the food in her mouth

* She has discovered her voice and she is LOUD. Like really really LOUD!

* She still goes down to sleep great - its like we push a button. And yes, we know how lucky we are!

* She has a great giggle and smile

Reese just started swimming lessons! The class is for 6 month-18 month babies and Reese, being just shy of 6 months, is the youngest. We have only been to two classes, but she seems to love it. She smiles, kicks and squeals with delight. The instructor dipped her face in the water and she drank a bunch of water and started coughing. But then....Reese kept trying to dip her face in for the rest of the class, so it clearly didn't bother her.

Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get pictures in the pool, since I have to hang on to the kid, but I did manage to get some in her swimming suit before we left for class this week.

Royal Wedding Party

Reese and I hosted a Royal Wedding party for some of our girlfriends. The girls slept over on the 28th and we all got up at 4 in the morning to watch the festivities. It was VERY fun. We decorated, made yummy treats and learned that the fanciest hats are called fascinators.

Reese - FIVE MONTHS

Just after Easter, Reese turned 5 months old! She is growing and changing so quick. Here are some things about Reese right now:

* She is about ready to eat, showing a lot of interest when we do and even mimicking chewing

* She weighs 15.5 pounds and is 26 inches

* She grabs everything and reaches for toys and bottles

* She has a VERY loud voice. She will talk and talk at full volume

* She started day care just one day a week and seems to love it. The other little kids love Baby Reese and she is very entertained by them. She has a good memory from week to week too, remembering everyone there and offering big smiles when she sees them again

I have been waiting a few weeks to post these next pictures, because they show Reese's Easter Dress and I didn't want to give it away.

When we had family visit in March, we were so lucky to have my brother Ryan take Reese's picture. You see, he is a professional photographer and amazing at that. Not only did we get one shoot, but several. He even humored the art director (that's me!) with multiple wardrobe changes. The results are fantastic. Reese - FOUR MONTHS

The Reese girl is 4 months old!! Here are some fun facts about her this month:

She is a loud yawner, which delights her Mom to no end. Every yawn is noisy, with extra sighs and drama. It is wonderful. I need to catch a really good one on video.

She rolls everywhere and everyway - front to back, back to front.

She is getting strong. Between the rolling and strength in her legs, she moves all over her mat and crib.

She just started sleeping on her stomach

She is grasping and taking a lot more interest in rattles, music, stuffies and other toys.

She did great at her 4 month doctor visit. Her latest stats are: Height: 25.5 inches (90th percentile) and Weight: 14 pounds, 1 ounce (61st percentile).

There was debate among the boys as to which of them was the (self proclaimed) baby whisperer. Nathan might be it. Reese feel asleep in his arms burying herself in his chest. Too cute. And good work Nathan!

Reese is one lucky girl. She got to spend a whole week with her cousins when the Arizona Youngs came to visit and spent their spring break with us. I thought the boys (teenagers) would think she was cute and all, but I had no idea how much they would LOVE her. They fought all week over who got to hold her and play with her. I am certain she is going through withdrawl, wondering where those boys went. We LOVED having the whole family here!!

Not sure how I didn't get a good pic with Uncle Ryan or Aunt Jenny since we can't talk about loving and spoiling Reese without them too.

While at the Phillies game, a photographer from the Associated Press stopped and asked if he could take Reese's picture. OF COURSE! Not sure it will ever run, but fun just the same. Nice too because he emailed them to us - see below. 9 innings might be 3 innings too long for our girl.

Spring Training 2011

As if Utah wasn't enough adventure, Chris and I took Reese to Florida for Spring Training Baseball the following weekend. Chris' Aunt Mary Ann and Uncle Lou live in FL now, so we flew to Orlando and spent the first day and night with them We had a GREAT time hanging out, visiting Downtown Disney and seeing their new place.

Four Generations

Reese is very lucky to have her Grandpa Great (that is what we call him instead of great grandpa. I love it because it is so true!) We went to see him at his apartment and visit one morning while in Utah. I am not sure which one was more infatuated. We also got what might be Reese's best picture to date - just so cute of the two of them!

Reese has 7 cousins - 3 in AZ and 4 in UT. She got to meet the Utah cousins on our trip, and the AZ cousins are coming to visit us next week! I knew the Obray kids were excited to meet Reese, but they exceeded my expectations. They were SO cute with her and everyone had so much fun.

Reese got to meet A LOT of people while in Utah. Some of the first new people she met was her Mom's cousin, aunt and some more of her second cousins. Here she is with Cierra and Aspyn, Melanie and Aunt Peg. So glad we got to see everyone (missed you Steve, Becky and the Boys - we'll catch you next time when you aren't on an amazing Australian vacation!)

Grandma and Grandpa's House

Reese Takes Flight

Reese took her first flight this weekend. Chris, Reese and I flew to Utah to see my family and to introduce Reese to all the people she hadn't met yet. We flew direct from Dulles to SLC, a 4.5 hour flight. I am happy to report - it went GREAT! We lucked out with a couple of empty seats on the plane and a nice gate agent at Dulles. He made sure we had one of those empty seats so we were able to bring her car seat on. That really changed everything and made it that much easier. She slept the entire time at the airport and through takeoff. Once awake we ate, played, navigated the tiny bathroom changing table, played some more and went back to sleep. Here's hoping for empty seats on the way home (come on delta!)

Reese - THREE MONTHS

Three months old!! Reesemeister (her new nickname of the day) is so fun right now. She is just expressive and awesome.

Here are some things about her this month:

* We don't have a weight/height update since her next well visit at the doctor is not until 4 months, but we know she is growing as she is starting to wear the next size and growing out of her little stuff.
* She giggles. It is really funny, but she gets bored fast so we are always coming up with something new for the giggle.
* She loves her hands - putting them together and mostly sucking on them (loud slurp noises included)
* Tummy time is short lived. This girl rolls. To her right and her left.
* She hates to burp. We burp her half way through the bottle so she doesn't get to spitty, and its as though she knows there is more to drink. We sit her up and she screams. Once she is full, she is happy again. hmmm.
* Her favorite position is hands behind her head. She looks so relaxed.
* She coos a lot - stringing together a bunch of sounds like a sentence, so it really does seem like she is trying to say something.
* She has a new trick. If you ask her where her tongue is and stick yours out, she will do the same. Smarty girl.

Future Babysitters?

Chris has been dying for warmer weather so that he can take Reese outside for long walks. He finally got his wish and was able to take her out on a trek to the store. Here is Reese bundled up for her walk.

Tummy Time Playdate

I joined a local mom's group to meet some other mom's and some playmates for Reese. We have gone to a lunch a couple of times and last week we went to a tummy time event. It was really fun to see the babies interact. Reese wasn't much for her tummy now she is a roller, but she was sure to show off her rolling skills before promptly falling asleep.

Who knew how much fun Valentine's was with a kid? OK, all you mom's did, but REALLY! So much fun. I can hardly wait until she realizes its a fun day too. Oh yeah, and Daddy took us girls out on a surprise date. Awesome.

Second Cousins

Reese hasn't met her first cousins yet (but she will soon!!) or her second cousins on her mom's side. Luckily though, there are three cute second cousins on Dad's side. Trying to get this picture, with four kids under 2.5 was hilarious. Below is one of the best ones, and then some outtakes. :)

Meeting Jackson

We all got to meet a new baby this week. Our friends Jacinda and Jeff have a darling new baby boy named Jackson. He is so cute, and the first smaller baby we have been around since Reese arrived. Congrats to you all. We can't wait for playdates.

Superbowl

The Trimbles invited us over for the Superbowl and we had a great time. Alicia made delicious chili and Reese was good - just hanging out during the game. She REALLY loved the half time show though. We were all cracking up because she was almost dancing - check out the video.

That's Just How I Roll

Reese rolls over! Tummy time has become rolling time. I was cracking up trying to take this video because she would roll before I could hit record. I would put down the camera to put her back on her stomach and she would roll before I could even pick up the camera. That probably happened 10 times but I finally got it on film.

I am pretty sure she needs this shirt now...

Meeting Claire

Our friends Katrina and Matt had a baby girl named Claire three weeks before Reese. We waited until they were a little older (and had vaccinations) before hanging out, but we got them together last weekend. They were awesome together - so fun and funny.

Visit to VA Beach

The last weekend in January we went to VA Beach to see Grandma Pat and Grandpod. Unfortunately, we didn't take too many pictures, but we did get a cute one of Reese ready for church in her ruffly sweater, and also in her new umbrella stroller. She is a little small for it right now, but we had to try it out. I just love the look she is giving her dad as he tries to help her get strapped in.

Snow Day

Northern Virginia got about 5 inches of snow this week, but as you know - that shuts things DOWN around here! So...Chris was off of work and we had a snow day on Thursday. The bummer is, we lost power and had to bundle up. Reese is clearly thrilled about her getup - lots of layers - tights, shirts, sweats. Oh, and socks on her hands! :)
